Nurul Islam Moni, Chief Whip of the National Parliament, has alleged that a self-serving group is orchestrating an artificial fuel shortage to politically embarrass the government and incite public discontent. He stated, “Keeping the public interest in mind, the government has maintained existing fuel prices by providing a subsidy of 36,000 crore taka.” “Yet, a certain group is deliberately manufacturing this artificial crisis.” He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting with local journalists, held on Saturday (October 17) at the conference room of the Barguna Circuit House.
During the meeting, the Chief Whip delivered a stern message regarding law and order and local politics. Referring to a recent attack on a Jamaat leader in Barguna, he asserted firmly, “If any leader, activist, or supporter of the BNP is found to be involved in this attack, they will not be spared.” “Criminals have no political affiliation; strict legal action will be taken against them.” Furthermore, he expressed a firm commitment to rid the entire Barguna district of extortion. Highlighting the current atmosphere of harmony in the country, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni stated, “Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s clear message is: ‘There are no minorities in Bangladesh.’
Religion is a personal matter, while the state belongs to everyone. The country is being governed according to this very principle today.” Citing an example, he noted that not a single incident of vandalism against idols or statues has occurred in the country over the past two years—a unique testament to communal harmony. He strongly urged a complete halt to the illegal operations of trawlers, emphasizing the need to protect the economic and fisheries resources of the coastal region of Barguna, as well as to boost the production of Hilsa fish.
Recalling historical context, the Chief Whip remarked, “A look back at history reveals that, in just three years, the late President Ziaur Rahman rescued the nation from the brink of famine and the ruins of destruction.” “In the same vein, the current government will overcome all conspiracies and, through an orderly process, complete its full five-year term, while accelerating the nation’s development.”
