It has been alleged that a man named Yusuf Ali (40) committed suicide at his in-laws’ house after his wife divorced him in Amtala, Chunarughat. However, there is a mystery about this incident. He is the son of deceased Rajab Ali of that village.

The police recovered Yusuf Ali’s body yesterday morning (May 3). The body was sent to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital for post mortem.

Earlier on Tuesday night, Yusuf Ali committed suicide by hanging himself at his father-in-law Chan Mia’s house in North Gogaura area of Sadar Union of Upazila.

According to police and local sources, Yusuf Ali’s wife left her father’s house two weeks ago due to a family dispute. Since then, Yusuf Ali often went to his in-laws’ house to convince his wife to return home.

Last Tuesday night, he went to his in-laws’ house to take his wife back home. But failed to bring his wife. Instead Yusuf’s wife Amina Khatun divorced him. Depressed by this incident, Yusuf committed suicide by hanging himself behind his in-laws’ house at night.

In the morning, the in-laws found Yusuf hanging and informed the police.

On receiving the information, a team of police including Sub-Inspector (SI) Ajit Kumar Talukder and Delwar Hossain of Chunarughat police station recovered his body from the spot.

However, Yusuf’s family said that he was killed and is being promoted as a suicide.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Chunarughat police station. Rashedul Haque said, I saw a half-shaped black mark on the neck of the dead body. It is initially believed to be a homicide. Necessary action will be taken after receiving the post-mortem report and any complaint from the relatives of the deceased.
