Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has claimed that there has been no complaint about the number of votes cast in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) so far. The Election Commission has always been in favor of EVMs. Working on modern technology innovation in future elections.

He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the opening ceremony of a day-long workshop on ‘Use of modern technology in electoral system: challenges and ways to overcome’ at a prestigious hotel in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday (March 11) morning. The workshop was held under the initiative of the Chittagong Regional Election Office under the ‘Capacity Enhancement and Strengthening Project’ of the Election Commission Secretariat.

Kazi Habibul Awal said, “The EC has taken a stand in favor of EVMs after being widely trusted after the examination and inspection.” So far, there has been no complaint based on information about the elections held in the EVM system.

He also said, “The main task of the Election Commission is to give the voters an opportunity to exercise their right to vote.” Who are the voters, which party did they vote for; That is not a matter for the commission to look at. If voters cannot vote, if they are prevented from voting; If their rights are curtailed at the polling station – then we will have to take responsibility for our failure along with all concerned.’

Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Election Commissioner Retired Brigadier General Md. Ahsan Habib Khan, Election Commission Secretariat Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath, Project Director Brigadier General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Sayem, Chittagong Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). Anwar Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar Muhammad Shaheen Imran and District Police Superintendent Md. Mahfuzul Islam and others.

Election Commission officials, senior administration officials, police, civil society representatives, new voters, public representatives and freedom fighters participated in the workshop.
