Narsingdi Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Shariful Islam has been accused of accepting a bribe of Tk 50 lakh from a contractor. Besides, there are allegations against him of giving fake grant, irregularity in allotment of graveyard, mosque, temple, embezzlement of lakhs of taka by fake bills and vouchers, taking advance money to get approval of new estimates, embezzling lakhs of taka in the name of entertainment.

However, Mohammad Shariful Islam denied these allegations. He claimed that those who are not paying rent are using various bungalows and lands of the district council and are running these misinformation. He is a victim of conspiracy. When asked to whom the Zilla Parishad owes, he said, “26 lakhs to the Superintendent of Police, 24 lakhs to the Civil Surgeon, Asim to the district administration. Most recently, the relationship deteriorated after demanding these dues.”

When NDC AKM Hasanur Rahman asked about this, he said, “I have not spoken to CEO sir about this. I don’t know how he said these things. I don’t know if any of our magistrates have ever stayed at Bungalow.”

Not only the CEO but there is complain against Chief Assistant Khorshed Alam, Accountant Roman Mia, CA Nur A Nayeem, Caretaker Shahid Mia. CEO Shariful Islam has admitted that they are involved in various misdeeds even though they have not admitted their misdeeds.

When asked about this with Khorshed Alam and Roman Mia, they said, “We have no opportunity to make irregularities. We only follow the orders given by the higher authorities.”

Deputy Commissioner Abu Nayeem Md Maruf Khan said that the district administration has a modern circuit house with three floors. He never informed the district administration about the arrears of the district council.”

Civil surgeon Dr Nurul Islam said that he has been working in this district for the last two and a half years. The CEO has never said such a thing.

When asked to Yasin Ali, Head Assistant of Police Superintendent’s office, he said that the Zilla Parishad will not get any money from them.
