Awami League-BNP clashed with police in Nangalkot, including 6 policemen and more than half a hundred injured

Before the start of BNP’s protest rally in Comilla’s Nangalkot from 9:30 am to 1:30 am, BNP-Awami League and the police clashed and it is reported that 6 policemen and more than half a hundred BNP leaders and activists were injured.

On the other hand, the Awami League has complained that the mural of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal and the boat was vandalized in Lotus square of Nangalkot upazila headquarters. Meanwhile, on receiving information about the attack and chase, additional police from Comilla and surrounding police stations came and brought the situation under control.

Nangalkot Upazila BNP convenor Nazir Ahmed said, ‘We organized a rally to protest against the increase in the price of all goods, including transport fare, the killing of Chhatra Dal leader Noore Alam and Swachhasevak Dal leader Abdur Rahim in Bhola. BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal was supposed to speak as the chief guest and former MP Monirul Haque Chowdhury, advisor to the BNP Chairperson as a special guest.

He also said, ‘But the leaders could not come to the rally due to the obstruction of Awami League-Chatra League workers. Awami League-Chhatra League workers attacked the BNP-Chhatra Dal leaders and activists with the police without provocation in the assembly area. More than half a hundred activists were injured. Chhatra Dal workers Saeed, Mizan, Sujan, Rakib, Johnny and Motaleb were taken to hospital among the injured.

Former Nangalkot Member of Parliament Abdul Gafur Bhuiyan said that the government party attacked the people who came to our rally with the police. Police fired many tearshells.

Nangalkot Upazila Awami League Joint Convenor President Sadek Hossain Bhuiyan said that in the morning, BNP-Chhatradal workers vandalized the mural of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal and the boat in Lotus square. A few motorcycles were set on fire.

Asa Comilla Additional Superintendent of Police Kazi Abdur Rahim said that 6 policemen were injured in the attack by BNP activists. A police car was vandalized. Meanwhile, the administration issued Section 144 when BNP and Chhatra League announced a rally at two places in Suagazi of Sadar Dakshin Upazila.

Sadar Dakshin Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shubashis Ghosh said that Section 144 was issued from 8 am to 10 pm on Wednesday as two parties called for a rally in the same area. Officer-in-Charge (OC-Investigation) of Sadar South Model Police Station Billal Hossain said that additional police have been deployed in Suagazi due to fear of clashes.
