Mustard Exhibition Field Day held at Kumarkhali

Zaker ALi Shuva: Under the management of Kumarkhali Upazila Agriculture Extension Department of Kushtia, the field day of mustard seed production demonstration was held in the year 2022-23 under the revenue sector. On this occasion, a discussion meeting was held at Mahendrapur Secondary School grounds yesterday after Mahendrapur field demonstration of Jagannathpur Union.

Under the overall supervision of the Upazila Agriculture Office, Agriculture Extension Officer Agriculturist Md. Raisul Islam, Deputy Director DAE, Kushtia, Dr. DC Mohammad Saidul Islam was the chief guest at the field day exhibition under the chairmanship of Hayat Mahmud.

At that time among others Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdul Mannan Khan, Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Bitan Kumar Mondal, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Kumarkhali Md. Amirul Arafat, Officer-in-charge of Kumarkhali police station Md. Mohsin Hossain, Social Service Officer Mohammad Ali, Jagannathpur Union Chairman Abdullah Al Baki along with farmers and people from different professions were present. Additional Deputy Director (Students) DAE, Kushtia, Md. Wahiduzzaman delivered the welcome address on the occasion.

At this time, the speakers said that oil is a significant source of nutrients. Mustard oil is one of them. Mustard cultivation can play an important role in maintaining the balance of the environment. Honey can be produced from mustard flowers. After harvesting the mustard plant can be used as fuel. Reduces pressure on trees for fuel.The leaves and flowers of the mustard plant are mixed with the soil and become organic fertilizer of excellent quality. Mustard leaves can be used as animal feed and fish feed. Nutritional scientists say that by eating mustard oil cooked food, the human body can get relief from various unknown diseases and skin diseases.

It is to be noted that according to the Kumarkhali Agricultural Extension Office, mustard oilseeds were cultivated in 1474 hectares of land in the fiscal year 2021-2022. 2120 hectares have been achieved in the current financial year due to taking 100% steps to increase oil production. Agriculture Extension Office Kumarkhali is playing a pioneering role in mustard cultivation. In order to increase the production of oilseeds in Kumarkhali, Kushtia, free seeds and fertilizers have been distributed to 4140 marginal and small farmers under the incentive program for increasing the cultivation and production of oilseeds in the financial year 2022-2023.
