At least 38 people have died in the US due to snow storms and extreme cold. Deaths from the storm were reported in Buffalo, Vermont, Ohio, Missouri, Wisconsin, Kansas and Colorado. The western state of Montana is currently the coldest. Here the temperature has dropped below minus 50 degree Celsius.
A report by the British news agency BBC on Monday (December 26) said that Buffalo, New York was the most affected by the storm and only seven people died here. Due to the storm, the country’s air traffic is not normal yet. Many people were deprived of the opportunity to celebrate Christmas with their families due to numerous flight cancellations. The storm caused power outages in parts of Buffalo. However, electricity connection has been gradually introduced in those areas.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said this storm will go down as the most destructive in Buffalo’s history.
A Buffalo police official said some of the seven people who died in the city were found dead in cars and on snow-covered roads.
Meanwhile, the blizzard has also had a severe impact on the neighboring country of Canada. Heavy snowfall has also occurred in various parts of Canada near the US state of Texas. The storm also brought life to a standstill in the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario. Local officials said that on Sunday (December 25), 12,000 people in Quebec were without electricity. It may take a few days for the power connection to return to normal. On Saturday (December 24), at least 19 people were reported dead in two days due to snow storm and cold in the two countries. On the same day, at least 13 people lost their lives and more than 80 were injured in heavy snowfall in various parts of Japan, including northern parts.
