Zero tolerance to stop tourist harassment: Additional DIG Apel Mahmud
Additional DIG Apel Mahmud of Cox’s Bazar Region Tourist Police has announced a strict stance to stop harassment of tourists in Cox’s Bazar under any circumstances. He said this at a welfare meeting of officers organized at the Cox’s Bazar Region Tourist Police office on Monday (March 2) morning.
Presenting information on the activities of the last one year in the meeting, the Additional DIG said that the Tourist Police has achieved significant success in strengthening security and curbing crime in the tourist city. According to the information presented by him, 35 kidnappers and 96 criminals involved in various cases have been arrested in the last one year.
In addition, 272 missing children have been rescued as part of humanitarian activities, of which 141 are boys and 131 are girls. 41 mobile phones have been recovered and 11 eve-teasers have been arrested. Four drug dealers were arrested and 21 drug addicts were rescued in the anti-drug operation. Fifteen people were rescued alive and 16 child victims were rescued.
Additional DIG Apel Mahmud said, “The safety and service of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Cox’s Bazar is our main commitment. Harassment of tourists will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Immediate action will be taken if a complaint is received.”
He also said in the meeting that a vested interest group is trying to tarnish the image of the Cox’s Bazar Region Tourist Police. He claimed that false and misleading news has been published in some newspapers by fabricating fairy tales. He called on all concerned not to be misled by such conspiratorial propaganda.
At the welfare meeting, the officials of the Tourist Police reiterated their commitment to perform their duties by maintaining professionalism, honesty and public-friendly behavior. At the end of the meeting, necessary guidelines were provided to further strengthen the overall law and order situation in the tourism area.
