No legal action taken despite the recovery of cut trees from government roads in Ullapara
There have been allegations of stealing and selling government road trees in Ullapara, Sirajganj.
While cutting trees for sale on Tuesday in Binayekpur village of the upazila, Bangala Union Land Assistant Officer Abdul Qayyum Khan caught the trees red-handed. The Union Land Officer did not take any legal action in this regard.
Local former UP member Fazlul Haque said that Abdul Mannan of Binayekpur village and his son Aslam Uddin sold government road trees to Abdul Kader of the same village.
While cutting the stolen trees on Tuesday, the Union Land Assistant Officer seized and detained trees worth approximately five thousand taka following complaints from locals. Later, when the trees were left in custody with the local UP member, the theft occurred at night.
Fazlul Haque also said that the street tree sellers stole the trees. Later, they were recovered from there and brought to the Union Parishad. But no legal action was taken against the government tree sellers.
Despite repeated calls to Aslam’s mobile phone, accused of stealing and cutting down trees on government roads, he could not be reached.
Bangala Union Land Assistant Officer Abdul Qayyum Khan said that the seized trees were recovered and brought to the local Union Parishad on Wednesday morning. No case has been filed in this regard.
Ullapara Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sharmin Sultana Sumi said that the cut trees have been ordered to be taken into the custody of the Union Land Assistant Officer.
