With the aim of raising awareness among students on environment, climate change, and agriculture, a Climate Olympiad was held (22 January 2026) from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the premises of Palpur High School, Deopara Union, Godagari Upazila, Rajshahi.

The event was organized by Association for Community Development (ACD) under Oxfam in Bangladesh’s Cultivating Change Project, with the participation of secondary-level students from class 6 to 10.

The Olympiad formally began with the National Anthem, followed by an inaugural address delivered by Ms. Most. Ashrafunnessa Begum, Head Teacher of Palpur High School. The opening session was facilitated by Project Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul.

A 30-minute competitive MCQ-based examination on environment, agriculture, and climate change was conducted for participating students. While the answer scripts were being evaluated, a Friendship Session was organized, featuring interactive discussions on the differences between weather and climate, causes and impacts of climate change, and necessary actions for agriculture and food security. The session was supported by Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Atanu Sarkar and Gouranga Bhowmik.

A special highlight of the event was a Gambhira folk performance, where climate and environmental messages were creatively presented through songs in the voices of a grandfather and grandchild. This cultural segment effectively combined education and entertainment, generating strong enthusiasm among students.

A total of 120 students participated in the Climate Olympiad. After evaluation, the top 10 students were awarded environmental books, certificates, and publications based on merit. In addition, all participants received environment-friendly Neem, Arjun, and medicinal plant saplings to encourage eco-friendly practices.

At the concluding session, students took an oath to protect environmental balance, regularly plant and nurture trees, actively address climate change impacts, and contribute to food security. Among the attendees were Md. Morsalin and Md. Kamruzzaman from Dharampur Palpur Alim Madrasa, and Ms. Nasima Banu and Md. Selim Reza, Senior Teachers of Palpur High School.

The Olympiad created a vibrant learning environment and emerged as a meaningful educational initiative promoting student engagement in environmental protection and climate change adaptation. In the competition, Md. Nazmus Sakib secured first position, Most Jannatun Noor secured second position, and Most Sumaya Akter secured third position.
