Disabled people are also partners in the development of the country: Information Minister

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting commented that they are also partners in the development of Bangladesh today because of the inclusion of disabled people in the national development plan. Hasan Mahmud.

The minister said these things while highlighting Bangladesh’s position in the country review on the first day of the 27th session of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Committee, which started in Geneva on Thursday evening, Switzerland local time.

Dr. Hashan Mahmud said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given special importance to include all disabled people in the country in all national development plans including poverty alleviation. Apart from this, his daughter Saima Wazed is working relentlessly in the treatment, service development, research and raising public awareness of autism and neurological and mental disorders at the national and international level.

He also said that the government is using information technology to increase disability allowance, expand inclusive education for disabled children, build disability-friendly infrastructure and make the necessary information available to them to bring disabled people into the mainstream of the society.

In this regard, the information minister said that the rights and protection of people with disabilities Act 2013, Neuro-Developmental Disabilities Protection Trust Act 2013, Bangladesh Rehabilitation Council Act 2018, Mental Health Act 2018 have been enacted by Sheikh Hasina’s government to ensure the rights of the disabled. The government is working.

The information minister also said that the prime minister has announced that the government will bear the responsibility of the orphan autistic children. Not only that, disabled-friendly infrastructure has also been constructed in the camp built at Bhasanchar in Noakhali for the Rohingya population of Myanmar temporarily sheltered in Bangladesh.

Dr. After Hasan Mahmud’s speech, under his leadership, members of the Bangladesh delegation answered various questions of the Convention Committee and civil society representatives. After the conference, the information minister will leave for Dhaka on August 27.

Note that Bangladesh signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2007 and the first review of Bangladesh is being held this session as part of regular country reviews.
