8 victims including women and children held hostage for human trafficking in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar have been rescued, while 4 human traffickers have been arrested by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The detainees are Asma (19), Shabnur (20), Zahura (43) and Sahara Khatun (62) of Teknaf Sabrang. Teknaf Battalion 2 BGB Commander Lt. Col. Ashikur Rahman confirmed the matter at night.
He said that on Monday, November 17, a special operation team of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) rescued 8 victims including women and children who were being held captive for trafficking in the house of Abdul Motaleb Prakash Kala Badda, son of the deceased Afaz Uddin, in Sabrang Panchhari area, and arrested 4 traffickers.
During the operation, sensing the presence of BGB members, several other members of the trafficking gang escaped in the dark of night.
This coordinated, fast and effective operation foiled the evil intentions of the human traffickers and immediately saved the victims from an uncertain and risky life-threatening sea voyage.
In all these operations, 2 BGB obtained important information about the activities of the human trafficking gangs through the investigation of their own detectives, including the statements of the rescued victims and the interrogation of the detained accused.
He further said that the eight rescued victims are card-holding members of various Rohingya camps and they will be handed over to the concerned authorities after completing the necessary administrative procedures.
