Department of Environment Conducts Drives to Control Noise and Air Pollution: Fines Realized and Hydraulic Horns Seized
In accordance with the Noise Pollution Control Rules, 2006 and the Air Pollution Control Rules, 2022, the Department of Environment (DoE) conducted separate mobile court drives today, 13 November 2025, in the districts of Lalmonirhat, Sherpur, and Kurigram.
During the anti–noise pollution drives, a total of three mobile courts were conducted, resulting in nine cases filed and fines amounting to Tk 11,000 being imposed and realized. Additionally, 14 hydraulic horns were seized, and several vehicle drivers were issued warnings.
Under the Air Pollution Control Rules, 2022, another mobile court operation was carried out in Lalmonirhat district against air pollution caused by construction materials. In this operation, three cases were filed, and Tk 5,000 in fines were imposed and realized. The owners of nearby establishments were cautioned, and instructions were given to immediately remove construction materials kept in open spaces.
As part of the ongoing nationwide anti-pollution campaign, from 2 January 2025 to 13 November 2025, the Department of Environment conducted 1,838 mobile court drives across the country against excessive vehicular emissions, illegal brick kilns, air-polluting steel mills, noise pollution, improper waste discharge, poor solid waste management, lead/battery recycling factories, wetland filling, tire pyrolysis, charcoal production, and the open storage of construction materials.
Through these operations, a total of 4,647 cases were filed, resulting in the imposition and realization of fines amounting to Tk 27,21,15,500 (Tk 27 crore 21 lakh 15 thousand 500). During the same period, 496 brick kiln chimneys were demolished, and operations of those kilns were completely shut down. Furthermore, 222 brick kilns were ordered to cease operations, and 138 kilns’ raw bricks were destroyed. In addition, 28 illegal polythene manufacturing factories were sealed off with their utility connections disconnected, while 170 other establishments had their electricity and service connections cut off.
As part of the enforcement activities, six individuals were sentenced to varying terms of imprisonment, and 11 truckloads of lead and battery smelting equipment were confiscated from 13 factories, which were subsequently closed down.
The Department of Environment has reaffirmed its commitment to continue such drives in the future to ensure effective control of pollution and the conservation of the environment.
