One arrested with 19 kg ganja in Ukhia
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested a person with 19 kg of ganja in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. On Wednesday (November 12) afternoon, members of Ukhia 64 Battalion conducted a raid in the Hoiyang check post area and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Nazir Ahmed (43). He is a resident of Shilbania Para in Teknaf Upazila and is the son of deceased Faiz Ahmed. Ukhia 64 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, PSC confirmed the matter to the media in the afternoon. According to information provided by the BGB, a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw was stopped and searched at Hoiyang check post at 1:45 pm based on a tip-off.
During the search, a total of 19 kg of marijuana was recovered from six white plastic bags carried by passenger Nazir Ahmed, wrapped in tape. The BGB said that during initial interrogation, Nazir Ahmed admitted that he was carrying the marijuana in exchange for a fee of Tk 10,000 to deliver it to Teknaf. Lieutenant Colonel Jasim Uddin said, “Legal action is being taken against the arrested person. At the same time, intelligence surveillance has been increased to identify drug suppliers and other members of the trafficking ring.”
He also said, “The BGB is not only strict in border guarding, but also in preventing smuggling and drugs. Such operations will continue in the future as well. The 64 Battalion of Ukhia, under the Ramu sector of Cox’s Bazar region, has been achieving success in border security and anti-drug operations for a long time.
Local residents say that these regular operations of the BGB have brought relief and confidence back to the area.
