A human chain was held in Eidgaon, Cox’s Bazar, demanding the rapid upgrade of the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway to 4-6 lanes and ensuring safe roads. This human chain was organized at Eidgaon Bus Station on Friday (November 7) at 4 pm by the government registered voluntary youth organization “Community Youth Development Awareness” of Eidgaon Upazila.
Various institutions, local organizations and conscious citizens participated in the human chain. The speakers at the human chain said, the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway has now become a “death trap”.
Accidents are happening somewhere or the other every day, innocent people are losing their lives.
They said that 84 people lost their lives on this highway in the first 10 months of 2025 alone, which is a matter of deep concern for the government. The speakers further said, “We hear about development, we hear about mega projects, but this demand to save lives is the most important today.
Highway renovation, adequate traffic police, speed control and awareness activities are the need of the hour.” In the human chain, the participants raised three main demands.
Which are: to quickly upgrade the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway from 04 to 06 lanes, to ensure adequate traffic police and surveillance system on the road, and to conduct driver training and awareness activities regularly. The organization’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Arkanul Islam Rian, said, “We have come together not for any political demand, but for a humanitarian demand. Every life has value. No one wants to lose a life in the path of development. Our only demand from the government and the administration is to make this highway safe.” CYDA volunteer members, local youth, businessmen and ordinary people actively participated in the human chain. The participants in the human chain said that they will not stop at just raising demands. They will continue awareness activities and mass signature collection programs for safe roads. Their call is “We want safety, not accidents.”
