Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the countrymen to increase food production. He urged this at the event organized on the occasion of World Food Day on Monday (October 17).
He joined the function organized at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium through video conference from the government residence Gana Bhavan.
The Prime Minister said that Bangladesh should be protected from the frequent disasters around the world. Try to produce more food from each location. Everyone who has land should try to produce something there. We have placements in many public and private institutions. We look at production in them. Be frugal in food intake.
Sheikh Hasina said, I produce whatever I can. Then there will be no famine in Bangladesh. Even if there is famine in the world, we have to make arrangements now so that Bangladesh can provide food. Also we have to save food. And the food that survives now, must be stored properly. We are producing, but if we do not store them properly, they will be wasted. We have to pay attention to that now.
He said, besides, to prevent famine, we should focus on using all the products we import. How to increase their production should be tried. I think it won’t be too difficult. We had a shortage of onions, now we are meeting the demand by producing onions. Meanwhile, the head of government gave instructions to work towards self-sufficiency in oil crops.
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder presided over the program organized by the Ministry of Agriculture. Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sh M Rezaul Karim, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture Ministry Matia Chowdhury were special guests.
