The workers blocked the road when a mobile court arrested a booking clerk of the Habiganj-Madhavpur counter for charging high bus fare in Habiganj city. Yesterday Sunday from 2 pm to 3 pm in the new bus stand area of the city, all types of transport were stopped due to this blockade. Passengers suffer from long traffic jams.
Executive Magistrate of Mobile Court. Moin Khan Ellis told the media that the concerned authorities were collecting extra fare from passengers on Habiganj-Madhavpur road for a long time. In the wake of such allegations, a raid was conducted there. During the operation, the allegations were found to be true. Due to the increase in diesel prices in the country, the government has also increased bus fares at a proportional rate. But the buses on Habiganj-Madhavpur road are not on diesel, they run on CNG gas. Still they are collecting extra fare from passengers.
He also said, “Where the fare was 60 taka earlier, they were charging 88 taka from the passengers. In view of this, the booking clerk of that road, Sourav Chakraborty, was fined 20,000 taka.”
“He was initially arrested for failing to pay a fine of Rs 20,000. Later released on payment of fine and cautioned.”
Meanwhile, the workers blocked the road with barricades. Later, Additional Superintendent of Police Maparoza Akter Shimul, General Secretary of Habiganj District Bus, Minibus, Coach and Microbus Workers’ Union said. When Sajib Ali reached the spot and resolved the matter, they left the road. Passengers complain that even though the price of CNG gas has not increased, they are charging extra fare on various roads. As a result passengers have to suffer. Many people think about honor and have to pay 10/20 more to go to the destination. They claim that it is necessary to run mobile courts in CNG as well as buses.
Habiganj Motor Malik Group General Secretary Shank Shubhra Roy said, “There was a misunderstanding between our workers and the mobile court. That’s why they barricade the streets. Later, the general secretary of the labor union. Leaders including Sajib Ali reached the spot and normalized the situation.”
