Ameer of the ‘Islamic Society’, Hazrat Syed Humayun Kabir, said that if people are accepted as the sovereign, law-giver and ruler instead of Allah, the Creator, in the formation and management of society and the state, and if they accept obedience to a constitution that is against the Quran and its bearer-bearer leader or government, then they are committing kufr and shirk with Allah. He said that in the formation and management of society and the state through democracy, the people are the sovereign, the people’s representatives are the law-giver-legislators and the government is the ruler and since obedience to a constitution that is against the Quran and its bearer-bearer government written on the basis of democracy is accepted; in the eyes of Islam, democracy is kufr and a system of shirk – an anti-Islamic doctrine – the path to hell. He said that since elections under democracy are held under the sovereignty of people by accepting obedience to a constitution that is against the Quran, democratic elections are an anti-Islamic crime, in the eyes of Islam, a people’s rebellion.
