Young Wonder of Bangladesh Muhammad Abu Abid
Special Correspondent:
By age, he is still young. Sometimes a journalist, sometimes a social worker, and sometimes a leader of social or journalistic organizations—he is often in the spotlight. His name is Muhammad Abu Abid. The love of people is his true reward. His greatest strength is the ability to win people’s hearts very quickly. Muhammad Abu Abid is the founder and chairman of the popular social organization Durbar Tarunno Foundation. Though young in years, in his dreams and actions he is an untiring warrior. At times, he has taken up the fearless pen as a journalist, at times stood beside the helpless as a social worker, and at times led the youth through organizational leadership.
Muhammad Abu Abid was born in Halishahar, Chattogram, though his roots are in a village in Patuakhali. From childhood, he was active in cultural activities. In school and college, he was present in drama, poetry recitation, debate, and many other fields. According to his friends, he was a natural leader, with a remarkable ability to become close with new people in a very short time. This leadership quality gradually drew him toward journalism and social activities.
With nearly eight years of experience in journalism, he has worked with both national and regional media. At present, he serves as Managing Editor and Online Chief of Daily Alokito Protidin, published from Dhaka. He is also the spokesperson and central Joint General Secretary of the government-approved journalists’ organization Television Reporters Association of Bangladesh (TRAB), and the spokesperson and central Organizational Secretary of the government-registered Dhaka Metropolitan Crime Reporters Society. Muhammad Abu Abid also served as the spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Administration of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
In journalism, he became known for his fearless reporting on crime, corruption, and social irregularities. His fiery speeches protesting against journalist repression have made him even more popular. For emerging young journalists, Muhammad Abu Abid has now become a role model.
In 2019, Muhammad Abu Abid founded the Durbar Tarunno Foundation. Built around youth, the organization has already carried out exceptional programs across the country, standing beside the helpless and taking initiatives to protect the environment. Its much-talked-about project, “Amra Mali” (We are Gardeners), aimed to raise environmental awareness through tree plantation involving young people. This unique approach of not just planting trees but also caring for them created a nationwide stir. According to a report by The Daily Star, hundreds of young people joined this project to practically work for environmental protection, and millions became aware of tree care. Through this initiative, Muhammad Abu Abid conveyed a powerful message: planting trees is important, but nurturing them is equally vital.
Under his leadership, the organization has already received various national and international recognitions. However, in most press briefings, Abid emphasizes that such recognition is not his greatest achievement—the boundless love of people is his real reward. Such statements make his accomplishments at such a young age even more dignified.
The story of Muhammad Abu Abid is, in fact, the reflection of a young man’s indomitable dream. He has proven that even without privileges, one can serve society if there is strong will. His journey is far from over. With journalism, social service, and youth leadership combined, people expect that he will make even greater contributions in the future. His greatest recognition is “people’s love.” As Muhammad Abu Abid often says: “The prayers and love of people are my true reward.”
Every day in Bangladesh, thousands of young people grow up with dreams. But Muhammad Abu Abid has shown that even a single youth can inspire the nation and become a wonder. His main capital is the power of youth, and his greatest prize is the love of people.
