Under the direction of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, the party’s Central Committee’s Legal Affairs Secretary, is carrying out various humanitarian activities in Durgapur and Kalmakanda in Netrokona in the service of humanity. He has taken the initiative to provide treatment to poor and helpless patients completely free of cost through an eye treatment camp in Durgapur Upazila of the district. In continuation of this, cataract operations have been completed on more than two hundred patients in five phases so far. A total of 207 operations were completed at Mymensingh’s Dr. K. Zaman BNSB Eye Hospital. On Sunday (August 10), 47 more people were sent to Mymensingh in the sixth phase. All of them will undergo cataract surgery. Among the patients, 23 are women and 24 are men. These senior citizens of society, who have almost reached the brink of blindness, are regaining their eyesight through this humanitarian act of Kaiser Kamal. People who have had cataract surgery are able to move and function normally again.
In addition to providing eye treatment to these patients with his own funds, Kaiser Kamal is also bearing all other medical expenses, including their food, medicine, transportation, and other expenses. Local sources said that Kaiser Kamal is working dedicatedly for the common people with the idea of ‘BNP in the service of humanity’. His humanitarian initiatives are alleviating the long-standing suffering of the poor people. In February this year, 932 patients who came for treatment at a free medical and eye treatment camp organized in Gujirkona village of Bakaljora union of the upazila at the initiative of Durgapur Upazila BNP and under the overall supervision of Barrister Kaiser Kamal, were finalized for cataract surgery. Later, the patients underwent eye surgery in various stages. Abdul Ali, a patient from Bhuligaon village in Durgapur who came for cataract surgery, said that he has had cataracts for a long time. I could not have the operation due to financial crisis. I will have my eye operation with the help of Kaiser Kamal. I am going to Mymensingh today. Another patient, Amena Khatun, said, “It is not possible to treat ordinary people like us in big hospitals. It is a very expensive affair.” That’s why I couldn’t get eye treatment for so long. Now, Kaiser Bhai is providing eye treatment to ordinary people like us in the village completely free of cost. Bhajan Chandra Sarkar, a patient who came for treatment, said, “I have been suffering from eye disease for a long time, but I could not get treatment due to lack of money.” But this time, thanks to Kaiser Bhai’s initiative, I was able to get eye treatment. Once I recover, I will be able to return to work. Those concerned said that this activity will continue in the service of humanity.
