Citizens’ thoughts on the Rohingya crisis and humanitarian corridor in Cox’s Bazar
SM Humayun Kabir, Cox’s Bazar
We must refrain from providing humanitarian corridors until national consensus is established. There is a need to establish an all-party consensus in this regard. We will have good relations with the Rohingyas, but if they are given a corridor, the Arakan Army will transport weapons and other dangerous goods through this corridor. This will put the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh at risk. By transferring Rohingyas to Bhasan Char in Noakhali, an island with great potential has been handed over to the Rohingyas, which can never be auspicious for the country. Locals are constantly being tortured and abused by the Rohingya. Despite the efforts of the local administration, no remedy is being found. The law and order situation in the area is deteriorating severely due to the Rohingyas. The situation in the area is becoming more dire day by day. Therefore, a decision should be taken after a more extensive discussion on the humanitarian corridor. Although international donors are benefiting from the Rohingyas, the local people are suffering indescribable suffering. These were the words of speakers at the “Citizens’ Thoughts on the Rohingya Crisis and Humanitarian Corridor” in Cox’s Bazar on the afternoon of May 12.
