5 killed in microbus-autorickshaw collision on Kanchpur bridge

Five people, including the driver of a battery-operated autorickshaw, were killed when a microbus hit the Kanchpur bridge in Narayanganj. Several others were injured.

The deceased are auto driver Abu Hanif (25), passenger Mamun (25), Jamal Mia (42), Noor Uddin (45) and an unidentified person (35).

The accident happened on Sunday (October 9) around 9 am. When they were taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a coma, the doctor on duty declared the three dead at 10:30. Jamal died while undergoing treatment. Nur Uddin died in a local hospital.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Narayanganj Kanchpur Highway Police Station. Nabi Hossain said that a microbus hit an autorickshaw coming in the opposite direction at Kanchpur Bridge. A person named Nur Uddin (45) died in the local hospital and 4 people died in Dhaka Medical. 5-6 people were injured in this incident and are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.

He also said that the microbus and the autorickshaw were seized immediately after the incident. But the microbus driver escaped.

A pedestrian named Omar Farooq, who took them to the hospital, said that the battery-powered auto-rickshaw was going in the opposite direction on Kanchpur Bridge. There were 7-8 passengers in it. Then a Dhaka-bound microbus hit the auto-rickshaw. Some were taken to local hospitals. And the remaining 4 people were brought to Dhaka Medical.

DMK Hospital Police Camp Incharge (Inspector) Md. Bachchu Mia said that the bodies have been kept in 4 morgues.

Naimul Islam Sumon, the younger brother of the deceased Mamun, said that their house is in Bezgan village of Jhalkathi Sadar Upazila. Mamun lives in Siddhirganj Adamji area with his family. He worked as a line chief of a local garment. In the morning, Mamun was coming alone from his house to his younger brother’s house in Kanchpur. Accident on the way.

Auto driver Abu Hanif’s younger brother. Ratan said that their house is in Patuli village of Bajitpur upazila of Kishoreganj. They live in the area adjacent to Jatrabari police station. Hanif drove a battery operated auto.

Meanwhile, Jamal Mia’s younger brother. Tipu said that their house is in Arabari village of Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria. Father’s name is Jamshir. Kanchpur lived in Sonapur area with his wife Jasmine Akhtar along with two sons and a daughter. He worked in a salon in Kanchpur. He was going to work by auto from home in the morning.
