7 children in court in cow smuggling case, police criticized
On February 26, such an inhumane incident took place in the Fultala Majhirchhara area of Naikhongchhari Sadar Union.
The Naikhongchhari police station handed over 7 children to the court after showing them to be arrested in a cow smuggling case. Local conscious citizens have strongly condemned the police in this incident. They have termed such action of the police as inhumane and cruel.
When they were handed over to the court on February 27, the learned judge immediately granted them bail after seeing the children.
After the children came on bail, they demanded money and good food from the media and were taken to the police station. Later, the OC arrested them and sent them to the court. They said that on the day of the incident, the police members on duty seized some cows as they did not receive the required ransom. Unable to find any means of transport, the arrested children were called and told that they would be given 3,000 taka each if they delivered the cows to the police station. But after going to the police station, they were framed as the accused and sent away.
In a tearful voice, 12-year-old Md. Ilias said, “I was standing next to the shop. Suddenly, the police stopped some cows. They were looking for people to take them to the police station. Then a man named Alamgir and some policemen asked us to deliver the cows to the police station, saying that they would give them money for their expenses and good food. Then we went to the police station with the cows. They also gave us food. But after that, they did not let us return home. After giving us food, they locked us in a room. The next day, they sent us to Bandarban in a police car.
Thinking about the future, 14-year-old Mohammad Anwar said, “I was never involved in these things. We were framed to exclude the main accused. The police cheated us. We wanted to cooperate with the administration, but instead we were framed.”
Child Mansur Alam’s mother Nur Jahan Begum claimed that the police accused the children to exclude members of the cow smuggling syndicate. That is why they were lured away from the front of the Phultala Majhirchhara market.
Jamshed, the owner of Jahura Agro Farm, has been framed in the same case. He said that a businessman named Kalu bought the cows from the market. He also has a receipt. Still, the OC has made me accused number 12 in this case. He is also threatening me in various ways.
It has been alleged that such a heinous incident was led by Jubo Dal leader Mohammad Alamgir, known as the police station cashier-source. However, Naikhongchhari Police Station OC Masrurul Haque has denied the allegations of framing the children. He claimed that all this is being plotted against him.
This is not the first time such allegations have been made against OC Masrurul Haque. There are various allegations against him, including extortion from smuggled cows.
However, although he did not speak on camera about these allegations, Bandarban Superintendent of Police Shahidullah Kawsar assured that action would be taken if the allegations are found to be true.
He said that the children who were arrested have been handed over to the court as per the Children’s Act and a special officer has been appointed.
