Complete shutdown and protest by students of Netrokona Medical College

Netrokona Medical College is protesting for its fair rights amid the country’s health education crisis. On Wednesday, around 12:30 pm, college students boycotted classes and exams in front of the city’s central Shaheed Minar as part of a ‘complete shutdown’ program. The students took out a protest march from Netrokona Medical College, circled the main roads of the city, and then arrived at the Netrokona Central Shaheed Minar. During the hour-long sit-in, the students raised five demands in a brief rally, saying that various policy decisions by the Ministry of Health and structural irregularities in medical education have made their future uncertain. The protest is against decisions, in particular, limiting higher education opportunities for diploma degree holders, not increasing the age limit for medical recruitment from 32 to 34 years, and increasing the salary of medical education. The students in the speech also said that if their demands are not met, they will announce more stringent protests in the future. This movement is not just a collective protest by medical students at Netrokona Medical College, but also across the country. They have warned of continuing the protest if their demands are not met. After a brief rally, the students set off for the Civil Surgeon’s office with a protest march. The students said they will submit a memorandum to the Civil Surgeon and the Superintendent of Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital there.
