The movement of tea workers to demand 300 taka daily wages is going on. Although 17 days of agitation have passed, the issue has not been resolved even though there have been several meetings.

Moulvibazar District Administrator has sent the issue of Tk 300 daily wages to the Prime Minister’s Office and is trying to get the workers back to work by assuring them. On Tuesday, the workers of Srimangal’s Jerin and Kharuraura Cha Buns returned to work on the assurance of the District Commissioner, but for some unknown reason, they again joined the agitation with other workers from the next day.
In continuation of this, on Thursday (August 25) in the afternoon, the workers of various tea gardens marched and blocked the Moulvibazar Srimangal and Sherpur regional roads, Beripar road, in which thousands of people including patients suffered. Last Wednesday also, workers of 10 gardens got together and blocked the Dhaka Sylhet regional road in Srimangal Satgaon Lachna area for two and a half hours. After that they left the road on the assurance of Srimangal Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ali Rajib Mahmud Mithun.

Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, the workers protested by blocking the train in Kulaura of the district. During this time the road is also closed for 3 hours. Later, with the assurance of local public representatives and administration, they left the road railway.

It is to be noted that in a meeting with the Central Committee leaders of Bangladesh Tea Workers Union at Moulvibazar District Commissioner’s office last August 21 night, it was informed that the Prime Minister will announce the new wages before the upcoming Durga Puja. The tea workers were requested to join the work keeping the wage of Tk 120 which was running till then. Accepting that proposal, the tea workers first announced the withdrawal of the movement, but a day later, the tea workers went on strike again.
