Mamun took charge of IGP, RAB DG Khurshid

Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has taken charge as the 31st Inspector General of Police (IGP). He assumed responsibility on Friday (September 30). On the same day, Additional IGP M Khurshid Hossain took charge of the 9th Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Mamun was appointed IGP and M Khurshid Hossain as RAB DG in a notification signed by Dhananjay Kumar Das, Deputy Secretary, Public Security Department, Ministry of Home Affairs, on the order of the President on September 22.

Earlier last Thursday, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun resigned as RAB’s 8th DG. He is a BCS 8th batch officer. Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was born on January 12, 1964 in Srihail village of Shalla upazila of Sunamganj. He holds a BA (Honours) in Sociology from Chittagong University. Joined as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) as a 1986 batch officer. He was promoted to the post of Additional IGP in May last year. Before joining the post of DG of RAB, he served as the head of CID. Before this he was DIG of Dhaka range. This BCS eighth batch officer is scheduled to retire on January 11 next year. Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who became the IGP, was praised for his work, but on December 10 last year, the US Ministry of Finance imposed sanctions on the former RAB DG on charges of “serious” human rights violations. In addition to Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, the former director general of RAB and recently retired police chief Benazir Ahmad also have the same ban against 7 officers of the force.

Meanwhile, RAB’s new DG M Khurshid Hossain was the Additional Inspector General of Police. He is a 12th BCS (Police) batch officer. He served as Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) of Police Headquarters. Khurshid Hossain, who was appointed as RAB chief, was born in Kashiani, Gopalganj.
