Road blockade of transport workers in Sylhet withdrawn

After a meeting with the administration in Sylhet, the transport workers leaders called off the blockade.

After the meeting at Humayun Rashid Chattar in South Surma on Thursday (22 September) night, the blockade was announced to be withdrawn at around 10:30 PM.

Earlier, the transport workers suddenly blocked the road at 7:30 pm. Pedestrians and passengers have to face extreme difficulties. In many places, the agitating workers staged demonstrations by burning tires on the roads. They held this road blockade program demanding the withdrawal of the case filed against the transport workers and the withdrawal of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nisharul Arif. The traffic of Sylhet and all districts and upazilas was stopped for about 3 hours continuously. During this time, the workers were also seen blocking the roads by throwing trees in various places of Sylhet city-metropolis.

However, at around 9:30 pm, it was decided to sit in a meeting on the initiative of the police administration. Later, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (North) Azbahar Ali Sheikh, Deputy Commissioner (South) Sohel Reza and South Surma Police Station OC Kamrul Hasan Talukdar sat with the protesting labor leaders at a place in Humayun Rashid Square.

The road blockade was withdrawn when the administration officials assured to meet the demands of the labor leaders in the meeting.
