Policemen engaged in railway security are insecure
Staff Reporter, Habiganj/
The condition of Shaistaganj Railway Junction Police Outpost in Habiganj has become very critical. The dilapidated outpost building is in such a bad condition that it might collapse anytime. It is said that the condition of the building is not renovated for a long time. 11 policemen engaged in railway security are continuing their daily work here through various problems.
It is known that during the British government, the railway police outpost was built in Charnur Ahmed Mauza of the then Sadar Upazila (now Shaistaganj). After that no major renovation of the outpost was done. As the building has aged over time, its structure has weakened. Although there is a living arrangement for the policeman on duty here, there is no toilet and clean water. Even for bathing, they have to go to the nearby railway tank.
Going there, it is seen that behind the building of the police outpost, the environment is dirty and mosquitoes are infested. When it rains, water accumulates in the surrounding area. Unable to move due to stench. Meanwhile, the policemen in charge of security are working. Finally, in 2005, the traditional Shaistaganj Railway Junction modernization and re-modelling station was carried out at a cost of 4.5 million taka, but this police outpost was neglected for unknown reasons.
A local resident named Kashem Ali said that there is no development in the Shaistaganj Railway Junction Police Outpost due to unknown reasons. Policemen are doing their duty very hard. Renovation of the outpost is very important for the safety and comfort of those who are working day and night for the safety of passengers.
Mir Sabbir Ali, in-charge of Shaistaganj Railway Police Outpost, told CNBangladesh that the policemen here are engaged in the safety of passengers. But here they are insecure. Buildings and platforms have to work constantly with the risk of collapse. There is no standard toilet and clean water for policemen here. For ablution and bathing one has to go to the nearby pond. There is also no good system of storage of seized goods and detention of criminals.
