2 people were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG autorickshaw and a covered van in Durgapur area of Chunarughat-Shaistaganj road in Habiganj.

The accident happened on Friday (01 September) morning.

The deceased are CNG autorickshaw driver Jamal Mia (22), son of Rafiq Mia of Narpati village of Chunarughat upazila and Farid Mia (40), son of Kashem Ali and CNG autorickshaw driver of Raghurampur village of the same upazila.

Confirming the matter, Chunarughat police station (OC) Rashedul Haque said that a covered van from Shaistaganj reached Durgapur area of Chunarughat upazila and collided head-on with a CNG autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction. Farid Mia, a passenger in the CNG, died on the spot.

Locals rescued 3 injured people and took them to Habiganj 250-bed modern district headquarters hospital, CNG driver Jamal Mia was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College in critical condition. He died on the way to Sylhet.
The OC said that two cars involved in the accident were recovered and brought to the police station. Other injured are being treated at the hospital.
