Police duty to uphold law and order: IGP
Dhaka/
Police do not make political statements. Bangladesh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has commented that he is doing his duty to protect law and order.
On Tuesday afternoon, Habiganj Police Station OC Ajay Chandra Dev, who was undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Ophthalmology in the capital’s Sher Bangla area, told reporters after inquiring about the treatment.
Regarding the allegations that the senior officers of law and order forces are making various political statements ahead of the elections, the IGP said, “In my view, there are no political statements of any of the members of the law and order force.” I perform duties according to law and regulations. It is my legal responsibility to meet the responsibilities and challenges that will arise in maintaining law and order according to the law. This responsibility has been delegated. I am obliged to fulfill this responsibility. I am trained in law enforcement, taught law and given necessary logistical support in law enforcement. Whatever is necessary will be done to protect the life and property of the people.
Responding to allegations that the police are arresting BNP activists with old and useless weapons, the police chief said that such allegations are not correct. We have taken legal action with the weapons we got from them in the operation. This allegation is baseless and baseless.
When asked about the fact that the mother of an expatriate living abroad was arrested on the charge of her Facebook status, Chowdhury Mamun said, I want to clarify this matter. We have received intelligence that a conspiracy is underway to sabotage the house of Amir, a Naib of Jamaat-e-Islami in Khulna and to worsen the law and order situation.
We conducted a raid on the information gathered by many and arrested three people. Among them one woman and two men. Later we came to know that the woman’s son is expatriate, he posted a status about Saeedi on Facebook. We get the information and conduct the operation. There we got digital devices, books, mobiles. A case has been taken in light of this. He said that it was not a purposeful arrest in any way.
