BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, referring to the recent arrest of militants from Kulaura in Sylhet, said that the government has staged a drama of anti-terrorist operations to distract people from the ongoing one-phase movement.

He said, where did so many explosives suddenly come from, who brought them, how did they bring them? Whenever the movement is at its peak, this militant drama is staged.

Mirza Fakhrul said these things in the speech of the chief guest of a discussion meeting organized at the Dhaka Reporters Unity Auditorium on Sunday (August 13).

Bangladesh Sports Development Council organized this meeting on the occasion of the 54th birth anniversary of late President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s younger son Arafat Rahman (Koko).

The meeting was presided over by Abdus Salam, President of Bangladesh Sports Development Council. He said that BNP did not partisanship in the sports field to stay in power. Now not only in sports, there is unrest in every field of the country. Athletes have been marginalized in sports arenas. Corruption has taken hold. Clubs have been destroyed by the casino trade.

Shah Alam, former general secretary of Bangladesh Athletic Federation, Shariful Alam, former director of Mohammedan Sporting Club, etc. spoke in the meeting.

Mirza Fakhrul brought up the issue of this anti-militant campaign in the discussion meeting and said that the government is cunning. Anti-terrorist operation in Kulaura. So explosive, detonator—what a terrible thing! Where did it suddenly come from, who brought it, how did it come?

Demanding such an anti-militant campaign to divert people’s attention from the ongoing one-phase movement, BNP Secretary General said, ‘When the movement is at its peak, this militant drama is held. Juju will scare the western world into thinking that without us, the militancy cannot be controlled. The government has come to this place to make plays.

In his speech, Mirza Fakhrul highlighted the plight of education, health and sports sectors.

He said that 10-12 people are dying of dengue every day. Children are being treated on the hospital floor as if they were sleeping in a prison. If the government does not talk about mega development, then why is this situation? The government has no responsibility towards the people. People are in a state of despair at the price of daily necessities.

Mirza Fakhrul claimed that leaders and workers cannot sleep at home, and those who are not involved in politics are not spared either. If the BNP worker is not found, his father and brother are taken away. If there is no democracy in the country, it will continue to be so.

BNP Secretary General said, we have only one demand, fair elections. Elections under a non-partisan neutral government. Awami League knows that if elections are held under the caretaker government, they will not get even 10 percent seats. This is the only reason why they don’t want to listen to anything.

Mentioning that changes are coming, Mirza Fakhrul said, many people say, why do you always have a smile on your face? Because, I see, this terrible monster is moving away. The people of the country want to see the fall of this government. Rest assured, change is coming, change will come.

Arafat Rahman’s contribution to the country’s sports as a sports organizer was discussed in the meeting. Mirza Fakhrul said Arafat Rahman was a victim of political revenge. A culture of politicizing everything has developed. A qualified person is also deprived. The same happened to Arafat Rahman.
