Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md. Shahab Uddin said Government is working to ensure a resilient agro-based industry that can withstand the impacts of climate change. Furthermore, our emphasis on research and technological innovations for agriculture and renewable energy is crucial in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. Integrating agroforestry practices into our agricultural landscape can foster resilience and sustainability while addressing climate change challenges. We must collaborate closely with the private sector, civil society, and international development partners to achieve our climate adaptation goals. I call upon all stakeholders to join hands and explore innovative partnerships to drive sustainable growth and development in our agro-based industries.
Environment Minister said this in a Roundtable on Climate Adaptation: Opportunities for Bangladesh in Development of agro-based Industries held on 2 August 2023 at Hotel Sheraton, Banani, Dhaka.
Environment minister said the National Adaptation Plan emphasizes the importance of private sector engagement in agriculture and food systems, research and technological innovations for agriculture and renewable energy, agroforestry, agro-met forecasting, and resilient infrastructure. One of the identified adaptation actions in the NAP is the development of agro-food processing industries based on climate-sensitive crop zoning. This initiative will enable us to make informed decisions in selecting suitable crops for specific regions, considering the changing climate patterns, and ensuring food security for our nation. By establishing such industries, we can create employment opportunities and add value to our agricultural products, thus strengthening our economy.
