Case against 6 people including chairman’s son for torturing roommate

A case has been filed against six people including the chairman’s son on the charge of torture due to a dispute over room rent calculation. On Friday (July 7) night, the victim Zaheed Parvez Johnny Chowdhury filed a case of terrorist attack and attempted murder.
Shah Chirati Mazhab alias Aranya (27), son of Chairman of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila Parishad, Shah Sarowar Kabir, beat up Zahid Parvez Johnny Chowdhury for demanding an account of the room rent. At least 11 people tortured Johnny in a room for two hours. With this, Johnny was attacked twice due to the same incident.
Before this, the attack took place on June 29 (Eid day) around 9 pm in the city’s Das Bekrimor area. Johnny has been hospitalized since the attack. Injured Johnny Gaibandha David is the son of deceased Abdul Halim Chowdhury of Companypara. Chairman’s son Aranya and Johnny are each other’s roommates. They rented a house in Dhaka and lived together for one and a half years.
The other accused in the case are Nannu Mia’s son Sujan Mia (25), deceased Abdur Razzak’s son Asif Mia (24), Ranju Mia’s son Jiban (23), Nazrul Islam’s son Sagar Mia (25) and Jewel (22).
According to the statement of the case, the victim of the attack, Johnny and Shah Chirati Mazhab alias Aranya used to rent a room in the same house in Bashundhara residential area of Dhaka. On February 17th, there were many discrepancies for several months. Later, Johnny wants to know the account from Aranya. Angered by this, Aranya threatened to leave the house. At one stage of the argument, Aranya tried to stab Johnny in the chest as he protested such behavior. When Johnny tried to stop him, his hand was severely cut between the wrist and the tip of the finger, bleeding profusely. Later, with the help of his roommate Abir and an elder brother, he was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital. The next day he was admitted to Dhaka National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute (NETOR).
After Johnny recovered from the hospital, Aranya seized his motorcycle and demanded Tk 50,000. On May 20, Johnny got his motorcycle back after filing a complaint against Aranya at Bhatara police station in Dhaka.
Later, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, Johnny came home on vacation. As a result of the previous incident, on June 29 around 9 pm, in the second round, Aranya blocked Johnny’s way at Das Bakery intersection in the city. Aranya along with Sujan, Asif, Jeeban, Sagar and Jewel started beating Johnny wildly with native weapons as per the pre-planned plan. At one stage of the beating, the accused tried to strangle Johnny. They dragged the injured Johnny to the forest house. After getting information, Johnny’s relatives rescued him from that house around 11 pm with the help of locals and admitted him to Gaibandha General Hospital for treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Wahedul Islam said that a case has been filed in this incident. Police are working to arrest the accused.
Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Shah Sarwar Kabir, father of the accused Aranya, said, I am not aware of the case against my son. And if there is a case, there is a court, I will take bail from the court.
