The anti-drug operation has been intensified in the metropolis under the strict guidance of the Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police. 4 drug dealers and 3 drug addicts were arrested in separate operations by the Special Anti-Drug Team, Metropolitan Detective Branch DB, Kashiadanga and Shahmakhdum police stations on July 26 and 27, 2026. Marijuana and Yaba tablets were recovered during this time.
On July 27 at 11 pm, the special anti-drug team arrested Md. Suruj (20), son of Md. Shahidul Islam of Bahrampur area of Rajpara, and Md. Mizan Ali (22), son of Md. Nayan Ali of Kakanhat, Godagari, from the railway line on the south side of the Dashpukur Eidgah ground. During this time, 10 pieces of Yaba and 114 grams of marijuana were recovered from Suruj and 39.9 grams of marijuana were recovered from Mizan.
On the same day, at 6:45 pm, the Metropolitan Detective Branch DB arrested Md. Shakil Ahmed alias Shafin (40), son of the deceased Karim of Meherchandi Dakshinpara, from the Meherchandi Koritala area of Chandrima Police Station. 100 grams of marijuana and Tk 1,500 were seized from him. There are 4 drug cases against Shafin in Chandrima Police Station. On July 28, at 2 am, the DB raided the house of Md. Mamun Sheikh (36), son of the deceased Abdul Khalek, in the Dabtala area of Hazrapukur, Chandrima.
Sensing the presence of the police, Mamun fled, but 750 grams of marijuana were recovered from his house. There are 3 drug cases against Mamun in Chandrima Police Station. On July 27 at 6 pm, Kashiadanga Police Station arrested Md. Abu Said (55), son of the late Shayab Ali of Hargram Pir Saheb Para, from the Court Station intersection area, along with 4 pieces of Yaba.
On July 26 at 8:30 pm, Shahmakhdum Police Station arrested Md. Saiful Islam (48), son of Md. Habibur Rahman of Dangipara, Md. Ahad Ali (38), son of the late Abdul Rahman of Barabongram, and Md. Abdul Khalek (40), son of the late Ali Hossain of Dakshin Nawdapara, from the Masterpara area of Barabongram. During initial interrogation, they confessed to consuming ganja.
A case under the Narcotics Control Act has been registered against the arrested persons at the concerned police station and they have been sent to jail through a learned court. The police operation to arrest the absconding accused is continuing.
