5 shops burnt to ashes in Panchgaon Bazar, Kalmakanda

A terrible fire broke out in Panchgaon Bazar of Rangchati Union of the upazila. Five shops were burnt to ashes. It is initially estimated that the fire caused damage worth around 20 to 25 lakh taka, including goods and furniture, to the shops. The fire broke out in Panchgaon Bazar between 3 and 4 am on Wednesday night. Locals said that the fire suddenly started from a shop. Within moments, the fire spread to the surrounding shops. Seeing the severity of the fire, the locals immediately tried to put out the fire and informed the Kalmakanda Fire Service.
Upon receiving the information, two units led by the acting station officer of Kalmakanda Fire Service, Md. Ashraful Alam, reached the spot at 4:55 am and started work to control the fire. After about 40 minutes of effort, the fire service members were able to bring the fire completely under control. The shopkeepers affected by the fire are Kamal Hossain, father-Mujibur Rahman; Sharif, father-Lal Mia; Firoz, father-Rajab Ali; Abdus Sattar, father-Nasir Uddin and Faruk, father-Din Islam. No casualties have been reported in the incident so far.
Initially, it is believed that the fire started from an electrical short circuit. However, the concerned officials said that the real cause of the fire and the extent of the damage can be confirmed after an investigation. The traders, who lost everything in the fire, have demanded financial assistance from the concerned authorities of the government after assessing the damage quickly.
