At least 35 people were injured in a clash between two factions in Kendua, Netrokona, stemming from a struggle for dominance and a long-standing feud. The incident occurred around 10:00 AM on Wednesday in Naupara village under Naupara Union of the upazila. Ten of the injured have been sent to Netrokona and Mymensingh Medical College Hospitals for advanced treatment. Local sources report that a dispute recently arose between Ward BNP President Ifran Mia and the faction led by Sunu Mia and Shakil, centering on the Ward BNP conference.

Amidst this, a conflict emerged involving the Sunu-Shakil faction over the transportation of fish by fish farmer Abdur Rahman, alias Yarkhan. The tension escalated when Ifran Mia sided with Abdur Rahman in the matter. Supporters of Sunu Mia allege that Ifran Mia’s men attacked Sunu Mia on Wednesday morning while he was returning home from the market. As news of the incident spread, members of both factions clashed using locally made weapons. At least 35 people from both sides sustained injuries.

Those seriously injured from Sunu Mia’s faction include Babul Mia, Kanchan Mia, Sohel Mia, Srijal Haque, Bokula Akter, and Bachchu Mia. The seriously injured from the opposing faction include Nazrul Islam, Saikul Islam, and Delwar Mia. Sunu Mia stated, “A dispute arose with Ifran because we did not support him during the Ward BNP conference.” “Previously, Abdur Rahman (Yarkhan) used large trucks to transport fish from his pond via the village road.” “As this damaged the road, villagers forbade the movement of large vehicles, leading to a conflict between him and us.” “Later, Abdur Rahman joined forces with Ifran to launch an attack on us.”

However, Abdur Rahman’s son, Al Mamun, said, “We cultivate fish in several ponds.” “When we attempted to bring a truck capable of carrying 36 drums to the pond for fish transport, people from Sunu and Shakil’s faction obstructed us.” Later, when an attempt was made to transport the fish using a vehicle carrying 18 drums, they obstructed the process. We have suffered significant losses as a result. When contacted via mobile phone regarding the allegation, Ifran Miah stated, “I know nothing about this matter.”

Md. Tariqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kendua Police Station, said that no written complaint has been received regarding the incident so far. The police from the Pemoi Investigation Center are handling the matter.
