In Shalikha, Magura, International Women’s Day 2026 was celebrated with due dignity with the theme ‘Today’s steps, tomorrow’s commitment: Protect the rights of women and girls’.
The day was celebrated through a colorful rally and discussion meeting jointly organized by the Upazila Administration and the Upazila Women’s Affairs Officer’s Office.
A colorful procession was taken out from the Upazila Parishad premises at 2:30 pm on Sunday (March 8).
After parading the main roads of the upazila, the rally met in the Upazila Parishad meeting room for a discussion meeting.
In the meeting held under the chairmanship of Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mr. Md. Boni Amin, the speakers emphasized on protecting women’s rights, preventing child marriage and ensuring women’s empowerment in the society.
Upazila Women’s Affairs Officer Abdul Awal, officials at various levels of the upazila administration, Shalikha Union Chairman Md. Hussain Sikder, Press Club Shalikha’s Cultural Affairs Secretary Subrata Biswas, local dignitaries and representatives of Press Club Shalikha were present at the event.
In addition, a large number of women and conscious citizens from different areas participated in the program.
In their speeches, the speakers said that the contribution of women to the overall development of society and the state is undeniable.
