A husband committed suicide after stabbing his wife and child to death at his home in Atrai, Naogaon. The incident took place at around 12:30 am on Thursday (March 5) at his home in Balramchak Chowdhurypara village of the upazila. The deceased are Joy Sarkar (27), son of Gautam Sakar, his wife Brishti Sarkar (22) and their 27-month-old daughter, Ginny Sarkar, of Balramchak Chowdhurypara village of the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Atrai Police Station Abdul Karim confirmed the matter. Locals said that the deceased Joy Sarkar was a drug addict. Because her husband was a drug addict and reckless, his wife, Brishit Sarkar, left the family and returned many times. On Thursday night, after dinner, when everyone in the family was asleep, Joy stabbed his wife and child indiscriminately.
Later, he also tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself with a knife. His wife, Bristi Sarkar, died on the spot. Later, family members and locals saw Joy Sarkar and his child in a seriously injured condition and took them to the Upazila Health Complex in critical condition. As their condition became critical, they were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Both of them died in the morning while undergoing treatment there. Atrai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Karim said that the body of the wife, Brishit, was recovered from the scene at night after receiving the information. The husband and son were rescued in critical condition and sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where they both died in the morning while undergoing treatment. He also said that the deceased Joy Sarkar was a drug addict. He used to behave recklessly with his family members and neighbors.
Initially, it is believed that he committed suicide by stabbing his wife and children after trying to kill them due to family feud and drug addiction. The matter is being investigated. Preparations are underway to file a case in this incident.
