110 bags of Indian cumin, imported illegally, have been seized in a special operation by the Sherpur outpost police under the Sadar Model Police Station in Moulvibazar. On Wednesday (March 4), Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Saiful Islam said that on the night of March 3, based on secret information, a special check post led by SI Shipu Kumar Das, in-charge of Sherpur Police Outpost, in the Sherpur Point area of the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, was conducted and a suspicious truck (Reg. No. Dhaka Metro-T-24-1004) was signaled to stop, but the driver tried to escape. A barricade was immediately set up and the truck was detained. Later, a total of 110 bags of Indian cumin were recovered during a search of the truck. Among them, there are 64 bags of “Mast Gold JEERA Machine Clean” brand and 46 bags of “K.S. Gold JEERA Machine Clean” brand. A total of 3,300 kg of cumin seeds, weighing 30 kg each, have been seized. At this time, a person named Rabiul Islam (37) was arrested from the truck. Police said that the accused could not show any valid documents for the seized goods. Initial interrogation revealed that the bags of cumin seeds were being illegally brought to Bangladesh from the border area of Sylhet by evading customs and taxes and transported to Dhaka for sale.
