Lawyers decide to boycott three courts in Jashore
Lawyers have decided to boycott three courts in Jashore. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the District Bar Association on Wednesday (March 4) afternoon. The lawyers decided to boycott the court, claiming that the situation in the court of the acting District and Sessions Judge has not improved.
The lawyers claim that after the discussion, the acting District and Sessions Judge Irene Parveen has started behaving worse. Therefore, the lawyers will not attend her court in any way. The decision to boycott her court has been taken from Wednesday. In addition, it has been decided to boycott the court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge (First Court) of Irene Parveen at the same time. In the same meeting, it was announced to boycott the court of Joint District Judge Rashedur Rahman as per the previous decision. The meeting was chaired by the President of the District Bar Association, Advocate Syed Saberul Haque Sabu and chaired by General Secretary M. A. Gafur. Former president M. Idris Ali, Sharif Nur Mohammad Ali Reza, Kazi Faridul Islam, former general secretary Mahabub Alam Bachchu, senior lawyer Zafar Sadiq, Moinul Haque Khan Moyna and former GP Sohel Shamim also spoke at the meeting.
The speakers at the meeting claimed that they were not angry with the acting district and sessions judge regarding the granting or not granting bail. However, he does not know the laws and regulations and is unfit to be a district and sessions judge. He is working unfairly and outside the rules. Lawyers complained to the association about these issues. Even the court was adjourned by expressing no confidence.
A meeting was held on behalf of the association with acting district and sessions judge Irene Parveen on this issue. She promised and later a compromise was reached between the two parties. But then it was claimed that he started behaving even worse. Finally, the decision was taken unanimously in an emergency meeting on Wednesday afternoon. It is worth noting that senior lawyers in Jessore have complained that since there has been no judge in the important district and sessions judge’s court for a long time, several judges are performing additional duties. As a result, such incidents are happening constantly. According to them, it is not possible for the acting judge to ensure the desired service to the trial candidate. Since he does not have the highest power, he is deprived of providing complete legal services.
This increases the distance between lawyers and judges, which affects the service seekers. Court sources also said that Jashore’s senior district and sessions judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam was transferred on August 28 last year. Three months later, Mohammad Ali joined as senior district and sessions judge on November 5. However, when Mohammad Ali was also transferred on January 5 this year, the post of district and sessions judge became vacant. Since then, the activities of the District Judge Court have been conducted through Additional District and Sessions Judges, which has been causing anger among the lawyers for several days, according to relevant sources.
Judge MM Morshed of the Additional District and Sessions Judge-1 Court served as the acting District and Sessions Judge for several days, but he was transferred to Dhaka last week (Thursday). Then on Sunday, Judge Irin Parveen of the Additional District and Sessions Judge-2 Court was given the post of acting District and Sessions Judge. Since then, the lawyers have been expressing anger. In the meantime, they announced a boycott of the court on Wednesday.
