5 Rohingya robbers arrested with weapons and ammunition in Ukhia
Rapid Action Battalion-15 has arrested 5 Rohingya robbers with weapons and ammunition in a special operation in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. At that time, country-made pistols, single-barrel guns, bullets and sharp weapons were recovered from them. RAB said that their operation is continuing to ensure the safety of the common people in Ukhia and Teknaf areas and to suppress terrorists and hardened criminals. In continuation of this, on the night of 3 March 2026, an operation team conducted an operation in Balukhali Pan Bazar area of Palangkhali Union of Ukhia.
Based on secret information, RAB came to know that some armed people had gathered at the rented house of one Abdur Rahman with the intention of robbery. Later, when they conducted an operation there, some tried to escape after sensing the presence of RAB. At that time, 5 people were arrested red-handed. However, 2-3 more people escaped due to darkness. The arrested are Md. Alam (33), Md. Rashid (44), Syed Alam (29), Noor Kamal (28) and Zahed Ullah (21). They are all residents of different Rohingya camps in Ukhia and Teknaf.
RAB said that after searching the arrested, 1 country-made pistol and a magazine, 4 rounds of bullets and a fired shell, 1 country-made single-barrel gun, 3 rounds of rifle bullets, 2 folding steel knives, 3 special sharp rings and 4 mobile phones and SIM cards of different operators were recovered. During initial interrogation, the arrested confessed to being involved in drug trafficking and robberies in different areas of Cox’s Bazar in collusion, RAB said. Among them, Md. Alam has a weapons case filed against him at Teknaf Police Station in 2024. Cases have been registered against the arrested persons under the Arms Act, 1878 and the Penal Code, 1860 and they have been handed over to Ukhia Police Station. RAB said that operations are continuing to arrest the absconding accused and uncover the source of the weapons.
