A mobile court has sentenced 5 drug addicts from Sadar Upazila of Noakhali to prison. The drive was conducted in various areas of the upazila including Dutter Hat, Mahabatpur, Sonapur and Baldington More on Monday (March 2).
The convicts are Md., son of the deceased Ali Ahmed of Halim Bepari Bari of Ward No. 5 of Noakhali Municipality. Sumon (44), Md. Raju (32), son of Abul Kalam of Dutterhat area of Ward No. 6 of Noakhali Municipality, Md. Yasin (40), son of the late Borhan Mia of Siddiq Mia’s house of the same ward, Md. Rabbi (28), son of Maqbul Hossain of Moshu Chowdhury house of Ward No. 7 of Noakhali Municipality, Anwar Hossain (29), son of Nurul Haque of Ward No. 3 of Ashwadia Union.
According to the sources of the operation, on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, the task force conducted a drive in different areas of Sadar Upazila on Monday afternoon based on secret information. 5 drug addicts were arrested in the drive. 2 kg of ganja was recovered from the spot at that time. Later, they were given 3 days’ imprisonment and a cash fine in a mobile court.
Deputy Director of the District Narcotics Control Department Subrata Sarkar Shuvo said that Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the District Administration Md. Shahadat Hossain, Mrs. Kausari Akhter, SM Zahida Akhter Mousumi and Muksudus Salehin conducted a mobile court on the spot.
The court sentenced the accused to 3 days of simple imprisonment and a cash fine. Such campaigns will continue during the month of Ramadan to maintain law and order and create a drug-free society.
