Iftar and Doa Mahfil held on the occasion of International Mother Language Day in Gopalganj

The great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day-2026 were celebrated in Gopalganj with due dignity and solemnity. On the occasion of the day, the local cultural organization ‘Agnibeena Shilpa O Sahitya Sangsad’ took out a detailed program.

At the beginning of the program, in the first hour of Ekushey, the organization paid deep tribute to the language martyrs by placing a wreath at the Gopalganj Municipal Central Shaheed Minar. After the tribute, a discussion meeting and Doa Mahfil were organized at the organization’s office.

Professor Sheikh Benazir Ahmed, Principal of Gopalganj Government Women’s College, was present as the chief guest at the program.

Tungipara Government College Principal Professor Sheikh Masud Ahmed and Gopalganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Sakhawat Hossain Sentu, Agnibeena Shilpa O Sahitya Sangsad vocalist Advocate Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal Mukul spoke as special guests.

The meeting was presided over by Golam Mustafa (GM), convener of Agnibeena Shilpa O Sahitya Sangsad and Head of the English Department and Associate Professor (Retd) of Gopalganj Government Nazrul College.

At the beginning of the program, Sharif Bulbul, a ghazal artist of Agnibeena Shilpa O Sahitya Sangsad, recited from the Holy Quran. Then, everyone stood and observed a minute of silence in respect of all the language martyrs.

The keynote paper of the program was presented and conducted very skillfully by prominent cultural enthusiast, journalist and chemist Sheikh Farid Ahmed.

In the main article presented, Sheikh Farid Ahmed skillfully highlighted the historical context of the language movement and the relevance of the Bengali language in the current era of globalization.

He mentioned in his article that the spirit of Ekushey is not just a formality of a specific day, but rather it is the motivation to fight against injustice and exploitation for a lifetime.

In the discussion on the article, the speakers said that the immortal Ekushey is a spirit that inspires us to speak out against corruption, irregularities and teaches us to protest against injustice.

The role of cultural organizations is immense in conveying the pure practice of the Bengali language and the correct history of the Liberation War to the new generation.

Especially in this era of technology, organizations like Agniveena Shilpa and Sahitya Sangsad should play a stronger role in preventing the distortion of the language and in motivating the young society to search for its roots.

The speakers also mentioned that the sacrifice of the language martyrs has given us a unique national identity in the world court today. Therefore, the use of standard Bengali and the introduction of Bengali language at all levels of national life should be the pledge of today.

After the discussion meeting, special prayers and prayers and iftar mahfil were held to pray for the forgiveness of the souls of the language martyrs and for the peace and prosperity of the country.

The prayers were conducted by Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Professor of the Islamic Education Department of Government Women’s College.

A large number of local dignitaries and members of organizations, as well as media personnel working in various print and electronic media, were present at the event.
