Inauguration of the highest flagpole “Chir Unnata Bijoy Nishan” at Ansar-VDP Academy on International Mother Language Day
Today, February 21, on the significant morning of the great International Mother Language Day, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force Director General Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud inaugurated the newly built flagpole at Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Academy located in Safipur, Gazipur. The national flag flying on the highest flagpole of the country awakens the spirit of national consciousness, unity and self-respect among the members training in the academy premises and further strengthens the firm commitment to devote themselves to the service of the country. This arrangement has captured the spirit of the language movement and has shown the patriotism, discipline and sense of responsibility of the force with new enthusiasm.
The name of the flag hoisted on the high-rise pole installed in the academy premises is ‘Chir Udna Bijoy Nishan’. The height of the flagpole is 120 feet, which is considered the highest flagpole in the country. The length of the national flag hoisted on it is 28 feet and the width is 16.8 feet. The ‘Chir Uttam Bijoy Nishan’ carries the glory of the nation as the eternal symbol of Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty and the great liberation war.
In his speech at the inaugural ceremony, the Director General said, “Bangladesh Ansar and VDP have been playing an important role in the national progress as the largest mass-affiliated forces of the country. In the recently held thirteenth national parliamentary elections, about 570,000 members of this force were deployed, which is the highest among the related forces.”
He also said, “Today is the commemoration of the great language martyrs and International Mother Language Day. Language martyr Abdul Jabbar was a proud platoon commander of this force. His great sacrifice to protect the dignity of the language is a path for every member of the force to be inspired by patriotism and self-sacrifice.”
He mentioned, “The ‘Chir Unnata Bijoy Nishan’ is a symbol of our glorious history and responsible future. This flag will make every member of ours swear that we are always ready to protect the independence and sovereignty of the country.”
He also said, “The inauguration of this flag on International Mother Language Day carries special significance. The spirit of the language movement teaches us to struggle to protect our self-respect and rights. An appeal to Ansar-VDP members to carry out their duties with professionalism, discipline and honesty by embodying this spirit.”
The ‘Chir Udhan Bijoy Nishan’ installed at the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Academy is not just an establishment; it is a visible monument to the nation’s progress, sacrifice and valor. It is hoped that the ongoing development activities of the academy will make the force more capable of facing future challenges by modernizing the training system, strengthening discipline and enhancing professional skills. The event concluded with the conviction that Bangladesh Ansar and VDP will further accelerate the country’s peace, order and development in the future, keeping the immortal spirit of the language movement and pledging to keep the dignity of the national flag intact.
Additional Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force Brigadier General Mamunur Rashid, Commandant (Acting) and Deputy Director General of Ansar and VDP Academy Mohammad Nurul Absar and other senior officials were present at the event.
