Administration monitors daily commodities market in Sreemangal

The Upazila Administration and the Department of Consumer Rights Protection have been monitoring the daily commodities market in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar during the holy month of Ramadan.

On Wednesday (February 18) at 11 am, the monitoring drive led by Sreemangal Upazila Executive Officer and Municipal Administrator Md. Islam Uddin was attended by Moulvibazar Consumer Rights Protection Department Assistant Director Md. Al Amin, General Secretary of the Traders’ Association Md. Kamal Hossain, Executive Engineer of the Municipality Md. Zahirul Islam, along with upazila agricultural workers, Food Department officials, Agricultural Marketing Department, municipal authorities and leaders of the traders’ association.

While monitoring various wholesale and retail markets, Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Islam Uddin said that the drive has been conducted to keep daily commodities within the purchasing power of the people during the holy month of Ramadan and to deal with artificial crises.

The campaign verified the legal documents of the goods purchased by the traders. Some irregularities were found, the traders were warned. And instructions were given to sell the goods at the correct price.

Haji Kamal Hossain, General Secretary of the Traders’ Association, said that one of the wholesale markets in Moulvibazar district is in Sreemangal. Every day, wholesalers and retail buyers from different upazilas of the district, including Habiganj district, purchase various goods here. We will keep an eye on market control and illegal hoarding.

Assistant Director of the Department of Consumer Rights Protection Md. Al Amin said that a surveillance campaign is underway across the district to control the prices of daily necessities during the month of Ramadan.
