25 kg of dog meat seized in Dhamoirhat, accused absconding
A sensational situation has been created in the area in Dhamoirhat upazila of Naogaon due to allegations of an attempt to sell dog meat in the name of khasir meat.
The incident took place on Sunday (February 15) morning in the Tetultali intersection area adjacent to Mangalbari market in Jahanpur union of the upazila.
As soon as the matter became known, intense anger and tension spread among the locals. Although the accused butcher and his accomplice fled, the police recovered about 25 kg of slaughtered dog meat from the scene.
According to local sources, Entajul Butcher and his accomplice Dulu Maulvi, a khasir meat seller in Mangalbari market, had been selling meat in the area for a long time.
They usually slaughtered animals at their homes, processed the meat and later brought it to the shop to sell it. Since they were familiar faces to the locals, no one had expressed any suspicion for a long time. On Sunday morning, the neighbors noticed the scene of a dog being slaughtered at Entazul’s house.
When the matter seemed suspicious, they informed the people around. Within a short time, the news spread and the locals gathered there and started protesting.
When the agitated crowd went to the accused’s shop to verify the matter, they considered the situation to be dangerous and quickly left the area, leaving the meat stored in the shop.
Upon receiving the news, Dhamoirhat Police Station SI Abir Sangyi reached the spot with a force and seized the meat from the shop and the surrounding area.
Later, AI technician Mizanur Rahman Mintu of the Upazila Livestock Department went to the spot and after initial examination, confirmed that the recovered meat was not that of a goat, but of a dog.
Jahanpur Union Parishad Chairman Golam Kibria said, “Around 25 kg of slaughtered dog meat has been recovered from the scene. It was not possible to arrest the accused Entazul and Dulu Maulvi as they fled. The recovered meat is being disposed of in a proper manner following health rules.”
Dhamoirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mokhlesur Rahman confirmed the incident and said, “The police have recovered the meat from the scene. A drive is underway to arrest the accused. Legal action is being taken in this incident.”
Aware circles say that selling adulterated and fraudulent food is a punishable offense under the Consumer Rights Protection Act and the Safe Food Act. In such incidents, public health is at serious risk and common consumers are being cheated.
Such fraud can have a terrible impact on society, especially in sensitive food products like meat. There has been intense anger among the locals since the incident.
Many have demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and exemplary punishment so that such frauds do not happen again in the future.
Currently, the entire area is discussing and criticizing the matter, and the general public is looking forward to the progress of the police operation and the proceedings of the case.
