In the 13th National Parliament election, she had a name, influence, and a long political experience in the voting field, but Rita Rahman, the daughter of BNP co-founder late Janneta Mashiur Rahman Jadu Mia and founding member of BNP, could not have the last laugh. Voters showed her a surprise in this election.

She ran as an independent candidate from Rangpur-3 constituency without getting a BNP ticket, voters assured her that there were surprises in the campaign, but even then she lost.

She said that she was clearly offered money, but Rita Rahman did not accept it. She changed the equation by defeating this heavyweight candidate.
