This information was given in a press release today, Friday, February 13, 2026.
A member of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force, who was part of the Ansar, was killed in a tragic road accident on the way back after completing election duty in a peaceful and orderly manner across the country—which is a matter of deep sorrow for the force. Today, December 13, 2026, at approximately 01.00 am, a bus carrying 23 members lost control while crossing the intersection of Karnaphuli Tunnel Road in Chittagong and overturned. Ansar member Md. Abdul Jabbar died on the spot.
Of the injured in the accident, 03 members are undergoing treatment in the ICU of Chittagong BNS Hospital and 07 in the HDU. The other injured members are being provided with primary treatment. The deceased Md. Abdul Jabbar’s house is in Ullapara, Sirajganj district. He was working at Meghna Petroleum Limited in Patenga and was performing his duties as an integrated Ansar member.
The incident has cast a shadow of deep sorrow over the entire force. Director General of the force, Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud, prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased member and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family. At the same time, he gave necessary instructions to the concerned authorities to ensure the best medical care to the injured members.
It is worth noting that more than 576,000 members of the force were engaged in election duty across the country yesterday. Sending a large number of members to the polling stations safely and ensuring their return after their duty was a very challenging and coordinated activity. Although there were no reports of major accidents anywhere else in the country, this tragic incident in Chittagong has deeply saddened all members of the force.
Bangladesh Ansar and VDP family prays for the eternal peace of the departed soul of the deceased Ansar member Md. Abdul Jabbar and expresses sincere condolences to his bereaved family. Along with this, we wish a speedy recovery to all members injured in the accident.
