Various programs to increase public awareness of disaster preparedness in Gaibandha

Inauguration of the MET Club, formed by children and students, to promote early warning in Gaibandha to reduce disaster risk. The MET Club (Metrologist Education Technology) was formed with the aim of reducing disaster damage by collecting information from various government websites with the help of information technology and disseminating it at the school and village level.

The MET Club, located in the remote Char area of ​​Gaibandha Sadar Upazila, held a Sardin festival with the participation of more than four hundred students of the MET Club and the students’ charming performances. In the said campaign, children and students from various educational institutions in the vicinity exchanged their experiences with each other.

In the future, the members of the Met Club will work to reduce the loss of lives and property of children and elderly people through the development of information technology skills through the collection of advance information on disasters, dissemination, workshops and training, organizing awareness-raising campaigns, weather monitoring, organizing club meetings, organizing various events, days, etc. A discussion meeting and cultural performance were held on the occasion of the inauguration of the Met Club. The Chief Executive of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department and the chief guest of the event, Director of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Md. Mominul Islam (Joint Secretary), spoke in the opening discussion.

The special guests were Nitai Chandra De Sarkar, Director of the Disaster Management Department, SM Kamrul Hasan, Meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Meteorologist Rubait Karim, Meteorologist, Abul Kalam Mallick, and also spoke, RIMS Representative Tanzilur Rahman, Save the Children District Focal Person Faruk Hossain, SKS Coordinator Ashraful Alam. The program was presided over by Farukul Islam, Headmaster of Kamarjani Merchants High School. The speakers in the discussion expressed their commitment to establish a larger platform by increasing cooperation among the members with great enthusiasm. At the end of the discussion program, the members of the Met Club who arrived presented the honorable guests with the northern readings and presented the honorary crests. At the same time, the guests presented the winning prizes to the students participating in various competitions. The honorable guests will distribute the prizes among the participants in the quiz competition organized on the occasion of the Met Club inauguration program. After the discussion, the students performed an awareness play “We are all in a disaster” and the covers of two disaster educational books ‘Bonya’ and ‘Bonya Book’ prepared with the help of the project were unveiled. SKS Foundation and Save the Children Bangladesh cooperated in organizing the program.
