“I will listen to you and you also listen to me” said Shipping Advisor
Shipping Advisor Sakhawat Hossain said to the port worker of ctg –I will listen to you and you also listen to me.
Shipping Advisor M Sakhawat Hossain, who came to attend an emergency meeting to resolve the ongoing crisis at Chittagong Port, came across the ongoing movement at Chittagong Port and faced protests from workers and employees.
Later, he got down from his car and told the workers,
I have been working with you for the past one and a half years. I will talk to you one-on-one. I will listen to you, you must also listen to me.
Basically, the Chittagong Port authorities organized an emergency meeting yesterday to resolve the ongoing impasse at Chittagong Port. In view of that, the Shipping Advisor came to attend the emergency meeting on Thursday morning.
While leaving the Chittagong Port around 11 am on Thursday, the protesters started shouting various slogans. At this time, the advisor got out of the car and listened to the workers, while Port Protection Council leader Ibrahim Khokon raised his various demands and called for the removal of the current chairman of the port, Moniruzzaman. It is worth noting that the workers had been on strike for three consecutive days for eight hours since last Saturday in protest against the decision to lease the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chittagong Port to the United Arab Emirates-based company DP World. Several labor leaders were also transferred from Chittagong Port to different places. After this, the protesters went on an indefinite strike. As a result, container and goods handling, supply/transfer from the yard and ship movement are completely closed today (Thursday) and at the port jetty. When contacted to know the latest decision of the discussion meeting, Chittagong Port Secretary Omar Farooq told Morning Glory that two meetings have been completed with the traders and one more meeting is left. We will know later. As of the time of writing this statement (4 pm), it is not yet known whether any fruitful decisions have been made to resolve the ongoing crisis.
